Famous people and their maxims

Throughout history, certain notables in every field, such as politics, religion, the arts, and business, have been associated with their maxims, which encapsulate a basic truth and remind us of their wisdom. For example:

  • Cecil B. DeMille: It is impossible for us to break the law. We can only break ourselves against the law.
  • Confucius: It is only the wisest and stupidest that cannot change.
  • Benjamin Franklin: Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.
  • Loretta Lynn: You have to be first, best, or different.
  • Eleanor Roosevelt: It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.
  • William Shakespeare: Be just, and fear not.
  • George Washington: Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.
